I spent this last Saturday at Concordia University in Seward attending the Plum Creek Literacy Festival. This was an amazing experience. I got the chance to hear several famous author's speak including; Kevin Henkes author of Chrysanthemum and Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse, and Judy Schachner author of the famous Skippy Jon Jones. The conference further fueled my fire and passion for children's literature. It gave me fresh ideas and affirmed why I teach and the real reason why I entered into this profession in the first place; KIDS!
Today we spent our writing time decorating "idea" journals. These journals were inspired by famous author Judy Schachner. Students are encouraged to take these journals where ever they go and jot down ideas, in hopes of sparking a new story.
