The past few weeks students have been studying fairy tales. In writing we decided to mix it up a bit and wrote fractured fairy tales. Students chose a fairy tale and changed some of the elements. They turned out great! Here are some snapshots of your child's story covers. Be looking for their story in this week's Friday Folders.
Monday, January 27 we celebrated being in school 100 days! Thank you to Miss Nedrig for making this AWESOME sign for our hallway!
Check out this activity that the students did with Mrs. Radcliff! We have made a school wide effort to save the turkeys this holiday season! Each student was given the opportunity to disguise our turkey friend. We have some amazing artists in our school. Check out the disguises that my creative students designed. I spent this last Saturday at Concordia University in Seward attending the Plum Creek Literacy Festival. This was an amazing experience. I got the chance to hear several famous author's speak including; Kevin Henkes author of Chrysanthemum and Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse, and Judy Schachner author of the famous Skippy Jon Jones. The conference further fueled my fire and passion for children's literature. It gave me fresh ideas and affirmed why I teach and the real reason why I entered into this profession in the first place; KIDS! Today we spent our writing time decorating "idea" journals. These journals were inspired by famous author Judy Schachner. Students are encouraged to take these journals where ever they go and jot down ideas, in hopes of sparking a new story. Today we remember all of those that lost their lives on September 11, 2001. We especially remember and thank all of those service men and women that serve our country. The class created an American flag using paper strips. They each took time to thank someone from their community or family that impacts lives. Here is the finished product. It turned out great! Here it is... my very first blog! I can't believe it. This summer has been full of new things for me. A couple weeks ago at volleyball camp, I heard something from former Husker player Lindsey Licht. She said her goal was to come in and make our players "uncomfortable." A person cannot change until they are forced to feel that "feeling." So I made it my goal to do all of those things that I have been putting off.
I love summer for a few reasons; sun, relaxing, and plenty of time to craft. There are other reasons of course, one being because it gives me time to reboot for a new school year. Summer brings fresh new ideas. My big project of the summer has been this website. It is still a work in progress but I am happy to finally have a place to direct parents and students. Feel free to look around and explore. If you have any suggestions, let me know! Thanks for visiting. :) |
